A photo of the Union Pacific Railway Station on South 9th St.
The railroad was a major driving factor for the city of Omaha. Not only did it allow more people to come to the city, but also designated it as a major hub for industry. Shipping along the Missouri River was still prevalent, however, the railroads allowed people and supplies to move west by land. Due to this, business in Omaha grew significantly.
